RUSHFORD, MINN: Herbert A. Thompson, 87, of Rushford, placed his hand in God's hand on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Winona Health Systems, to rejoin his beloved wife, Bette, in heaven.
Herbert Allan Thompson was born October 9, 1928 to Alfred T. and Mabel T. (Neshiem) Thompson in Rushford, MN. Herb graduated from Rushford High School in 1946. He served in the Navy during WWII. On December 4, 1948, Herb was united in marriage with Bette Torgerud at the Rushford Lutheran Parsonage in Rushford. Bette placed her hand in God's hand on August 8, 2013. Herb worked for Tri-County Electric for 42 and half years. He retired as Manager of Administrative Services. Herb was very active in the community of Rushford. He was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church, 10 year member of the Rushford School Board, 6 year member of Rushford Lutheran Congregational Council, 50 year plus member of the Rushford Masonic Lodge, 50 year plus member of Rushford and Rochester, MN and Mission Texas Lions Clubs, Lions District Governor in 1974-75 (Dist. 5M-6), and member of Rushford American Legion Post 94. Herb enjoyed stamp collecting, deer hunting, and golf. He also enjoyed the woods and bluffs of southeastern Minnesota. He was a loving and caring husband and father who cared deeply for his family and especially his wife Bette of 65 years. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed.
Herb is survived by his two children, Mark (Susan) Thompson, Plymouth, MN and Mary (James) Woll, Clinton, IA; his grandchildren, Kristin (Keith) Hartgrave, Angela (Brian) Murphy, Dain (Aila) Thompson, Tess Thompson; and great grandchildren, Meghan Busswitz, Kaitlyn Busswitz, and Allyson Busswitz; his brother, Douglas (Lynn) Thompson, Marco Island, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 65 years Bette, and a grandson Blake Thompson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Rushford Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford, and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Rushford Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Home, Rushford, MN.
