Helene "Penny" Lorraine Schoener, 89, of Winona, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare. She was born December 16, 1920, in Minneapolis, MN, to Frederick Johnson and Anna (Anderson) Johnson. On May 31, 1946, she married Eugene "Gene" V. Schoener at St. Boniface Church in Melrose, MN. She graduated from North High School and attended Lutheran Bible Institute, both in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to marriage, she worked in the purchasing office at Dayton Hudson Department Store. In July 1952, she moved to Winona and assisted her husband in establishing his dental practice. As a homemaker, Penny lovingly raised seven children and was active in PTA, St. Casimir Church Ladies Auxiliary, and the Winona Dental Association Auxiliary. Penny enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing.Helene is survived by her children, Michael (Linda) Schoener of Monee, IL, Gregory (Lin) Schoener of Red Wing, MN, Carol (Ronald) Riner of St. Louis, MO, Debra Schoener, Julie Schoener and Timothy Schoener all of Winona, MN, and Thomas (Colleen) Schoener of North Hudson, WI; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Johnson of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gene, an infant daughter and brother, Russell Johnson.Private family services are being held.
