HELEN (JORPELAND) OVERBOE

Helen was born July 30, 1933, to John and Helma (Paulson) Jorpeland at Lanesboro, Minnesota. Helen passed away June 11, 2024 at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis.

She grew up on the family farm near Whalan.  Helen attended grade school in Whalan, and graduated from Lanesboro High  School in 1951.  After graduation, Helen moved to Minneapolis and got a job as Administration Assistant at Advance Machine Company.  She loved this job and met many new friends there.

Helen and Ole were married June 7, 1961,  and they built a home on Lake Minnetonka. Helen was a great cook.  She and Ole loved to entertain and Helen always served an overabundance of food.

After Helen and Ole retired, they moved to Bonita Springs, Florida, and in 2012 they moved to Rushford. Ole passed away July 11, 2021.

Helen went on many trips, either on a bus tour, or with family.  She had a special place in her heart for dogs and cats-one of  the cats was  named "Dolly Parton" as this cat had a coat of many colors.  Helen was kind, thoughtful, generous, and she kept in contact with her family and friends.

Helen's  memory declined the last couple years, and she was admitted to Yorkshire of Edina in December 2023.

Helen is survived by her sister, Ardis Nelson; nephews, Brian and Ken; and nieces Sandy, Gail, Kim and Kelly.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Gordon and his wife, Lois; her sister, Eleanor, and her husband, Erwin Paavola; her brother-in-law, Wally Nelson; and aunts Amanda Slinde and Florence Edwardson.

Funeral services for Helen will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Whalan Lutheran Church with Pastor Hinkie officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
