Helen Matteson Hollister (nee Wolcott), 88 of Lewiston, died, Sunday, December 12, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.Helen was born December 30, 1921 in Walnut, IL, to Edwin and Alvina (Husman) Wolcott. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Matteson and she received a great deal of joy raising three daughters and three step-children: Mrs. Barbara (Earl) Weeks, Mrs. Elizabeth (Duane) Wirt, Dr. Martha Lynn (Daniel) Pisaniello, Robert Wayne (Louise) Matteson, Mrs. Barbara Hamilton and Mrs. June (Richard) DeFore. In 1981 she married Edward (Ted) Hollister who had three children: Edward (Anita), Frank and Susan (Paul) Tanty. Ted passed away in 2009. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Elias; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte (Ralph) Cox; son-in-law, Roger Hamilton; a nephew , Tom, and her parents.She attended the Joliet Junior College and the University of Chicago, majoring in Chemistry. She was very active in church and her community all her life: an EMT, Red Cross Instructor and Disaster Volunteer, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Girl Scout Leader, 55 year PEO, and Band parent. She loved to tend her roses, knit and read. She worked as a chemist for Chrysler, Caterpillar and Glidden-Durkee. Helen spent her later years traveling and enjoying her grand children and friends. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Monday, December 20 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Joliet, IL with the Reverend David Green officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
