Harriett Augusta Benedett

December 30, 1929 — June 27, 2012

Beloved mother and grandmother Harriett Benedett, 82, of Winona and rural Winona, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Lake Winona Manor. She was born Dec. 30, 1929 in Plainview to Charles and Meta (Timm) Labisky. She graduated from Plainview High School and helped on the family farm until she was introduced to the love of her life, Hugo Benedett. The two married Sept. 2, 1961 in Plainview and began farming in rural Winona. Harriett filled her days with farm chores, selling eggs for a little extra pocket money and the chance to visit with her customers. She loved sewing, flower gardening, doing crafts, and canning and freezing fruits and vegetables. She especially enjoyed gathering and trying new recipes, knowing that Hugo would happily taste all her new creations. She volunteered at St. John's Lutheran School in Lewiston, where she and Hugo helped children with their reading skills. Though the two retired to Winona, their hearts remained on the farm, surrounded by the neighbors they loved so dearly. Later in life, as Hugo's health failed, the two were inseparable, and she rarely left his side. The light of her life was her one granddaughter, Hannah, who filled her days with drawings, stories and hugs. Harriett was known for her smiles, which continued to inspire others, even in her final days. And, throughout her life, Harriett documented everything on film, leaving behind countless pictures and wonderful memories.Survivors include her daughter Deborah (Rick) Nahrgang; her granddaughter, Hannah; a brother, Charles Labisky; a sister, Luella (Don) Wallerich; and her niece and nephews Diane (Bob) Lubahn, Randy Wallerich, and Brian Wallerich. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hugo.Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in Lewiston and one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston, with the Revs. John Dermé and Michael Lindemann officiating.
