Harriet “Hattie” Matilda Poss, age 94 of Winona, died on Friday, March 1, 2024.
Harriet was born June 1, 1929 in Hanover, PA, to Alfred and Pauline (Little) Freeman. She moved several times throughout her life including Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia and Minnesota in 1965. In Minnesota she lived in Winona and Lake City before moving back to Winona. Hattie worked in the fabric department at Choates Department Store and was a talented seamstress making many kids clothes and costumes. She was a Girl Scout leader and camp director, a member of the Red Hat Club, Harvest House and a faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Hattie enjoyed gardening, bus trips with her friends, fun at Lake Lizzy and loved to fish. She was an easy going, fun loving and very kind woman who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Marvin) Tucker, Barbara (Dave) Styba, Donna (Terry) Lamb, Joann (Mark) Stermer, Joseph Stermer, and Norma Thiel; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is further survived by the Moehnke and Poss families as well as a great friend, Cathie Logan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bob Moehnke and John Poss; former husband, Levi Stermer; as well as her beloved cat, Scamp.
Hattie’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living for the loving and compassionate care shown her throughout the years and their gratitude to Winona Area Hospice.
Services will be on Saturday, March 9, 2023 at 11am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (265 Lafayette St. Winona, MN).
