Harriet M. Tweedy, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 8th, 2011, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN. Harriet was born November 30, 1921, in Winona, MN, to Ernest and Emma (Noeske) Breitlow. She attended Winona Public Schools, received her B.S. in Nursing from the College of St. Teresa in 1944, and was on the faculty of St. Mary's School of Nursing until her marriage to Dr. John Tweedy on February 20, 1948. Besides being a wonderful mother to her six children, she contributed her time and skills to various groups and organizations. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Portia Club, P.E.O. Chapter CS for 59 years, the Winona County Historical Society, was a volunteer for the Red Cross blood drives and vaccinations, Girl Scouts, and the Winona Day Activity Center. Harriet served on the Winona County Local Public Health Advisory Committee and was also a member of the first committee to establish a 4-year nursing program at Winona State University. She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Frank LessArd) of Winona, Marion (Fred) West of Kooskia, ID, Margaret of Buffalo City, WI, David (Amy) and grandsons, Jason and Brendan of Steamboat Springs, CO, and daughter-in-law, Robin Latta-Tweedy of Branford, CT. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, James and George; brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Ruth B. Worlds.Harriet was a beautiful, kind, strong, productive and very centered lady. She also had an inner child that we all loved to play with. Harriet was true north on our compass and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12th, at 1:00pm, at First Congregational Church UCC in Winona, with the Reverend Timothy Forester officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the charity of the donor's choice.
