Dover, The funeral for Harold Theodore Zitzow will be 1:30 PM Sunday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Harold Zitzow, 85, of Dover, a retired farmer, died Thursday January 1, 2004 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles of complications of Alzheimer's disease. Harold was born May 17, 1918 in Perham, Minnesota to Theodore and Anna (Mueller) Zitzow. A lifelong farmer, her farmed with his parents in northern Minnesota until moving to Cook's Valley near Kellogg and Quincy Township near St. Charles. On August 24, 1944, he married Hazel J. Michael at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles. They farmed north of St. Charles until moving to Dover Township in 1950. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he had served on the finance committee. He also served on the Dover-Eyota school board and was a member of the Isaac Walton League. His hobbies included woodworking, playing cards and going for drives. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Hazel; five daughters, Beverly (Ellis) Ruesink of Harmony, Janet Zitzow of Duluth, Marilyn Zitzow of Grand Meadow, Pamela (Wayne) Hahn of Goodhue and Michelle (Ronald) Heins of Eyota; two sons, Ronald (Janet) of St. Cloud and Kenneth (Bonnie) of Dover, 22 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Lester of Madison, WI and Elaine (John) Unrue of New Smyrna Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clarence, and a sister, Arlene. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Homes-St. Charles Chapel, and one hour before services at the church.
