Harold Morris Quarstad, 95, of Lanesboro passed away Sunday at Park Lane Estates in Preston.
Harold was born September 12, 1920 in Lanesboro to Ole and Clara (Gunderson) Quarstad.
Harold attended country school in Pilot Mound and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1938. He worked in farming until he entered the United States Army in 1942, where he served in the Pacific Theatre, stationed in the Philippines, New Guinea, and was on a ship bound for Japan when the war ended. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Following the war, Harold and his brother Art were able to purchase a farm close to Pilot Mound. Harold continued to farm on this land until 2014.
He served on the Pilot Mound Lutheran Church Council, cemetery board, and taught Sunday School.
In 2009 he went on the World War II Honor Flight to Washington D.C. This past spring he received a certificate honoring his 70 years of continuous membership in the Lanesboro American Legion.
Harold moved to Park Lane Estates in Preston in 2014 where he enjoyed visiting, playing cards, music, and watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a hardworking, generous man, ready to help neighbors and friends.
Harold is survived by his sister Esther Nepstad of Preston, and nephew Richard (Jennifer) Nepstad. Great nephew Andrew (Meghan) Nepstad, Great niece Megan Nepstad (Michael) Fox, and great great niece Ava Fox and great great nephew Kai Fox also survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Hazel Rain, & brothers Arthur and Clarence.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday at the Pilot Mound Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sarah J. Walker-Brown officiating. Visitation will take Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro and one hour prior to service on Thursday at church.
A committal service with military honors accorded by the Lanesboro American Legion Post 40 will take place at the Pilot Mound Lutheran Cemetery following the funeral service.
Memorials are preferred to Pilot Mound Lutheran Church or Pilot Mound Lutheran Cemetery.
