Harold Nelson

St. Charles, Harold Nelson, 99, of St. Charles died Tuesday evening March 2, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Harold was born November 19, 1904 in St. Paul to Gust and Ellen Nelson. He and Dorothy Krause were married November 28, 1925 in Rochester. They made their home in Dover. Harold worked as butter maker in Dover and Eyota. He later drove truck for Co-op Oil before working in the Co-op office in Rochester. Harold retired from the Co-op as Petroleum manager. Following retirement the couple wintered in Texas for 26 years. They entered St. Charles Assisted Living in September of 2003. Harold was a Past Master of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge of St. Charles, a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In Dover he belonged to the Dover United Methodist Church, served as Mayor and on the School Board. He enjoyed working in his garden, deer hunting, fishing, golf, and was a Minnesota Twins fan. Survivors include his wife Dorothy, a daughter Shirley (Tony) Burgdorf of Dover, two grandchildren, Cindy (Larry) Whitcomb of Eyota and Curt (Connie) Burgdorf of Aldord, TX, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, two sisters Lucille Bean and Margie Nelson both of Dover. A brother Roy Nelson preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel with the Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery of Dover. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Friday and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 7PM Friday at the funeral home.
