CHATFIELD - A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for Harold Vincent Mangan at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield with Father Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield.
Harold Mangan, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Harold was born Dec.18, 1922, in Preston, the son of Charles and Nellie (Leister) Mangan. He was raised and went to school in the Preston area. He married Orilee Wright in Fountain on Nov. 28, 1945. The couple farmed in the Preston/Fountain area until moving to Chatfield in 1956. He married Muriel Schultz on July 24, 2004 in Preston.
Harold was a farmer, then a carpenter until retiring. He drove his ponies (Cindy & Sandy) in parades, and entered contests for years. He belonged to the Austin Gem and Mineral Club and polished stones for jewelry. He was also a member of the Pilot Mound Farm Bureau. Harold loved to dance and play cards. He always had to have a cookie after breakfast to start his day.
He is survived by a son, Vincent (Laura) Mangan of Spring Valley; two daughters, Barbara Yetter of Fountain and Nancy Johnson of Rochester; six grandchildren, Mark and Richard Yetter, Teresa Blok, Kris Kalstabakken, Matt and Sandi Mangan; nine great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.Harold is also survived by Muriel’s family: Donald Schultz of St Louis Park, Jerry (Janice) Schultz of Preston, Lyle (Sheryl) Schultz of Chatfield, Kristi Schultz of Madison WI, Diane (Earl) Kinneberg and Jane Christenson, both of Rochester and Mary (Lloyd) Flint of Dodge Center and 12 grandchildren, one step-grandson, 12 great-great step-grandchildren; one sister Gladys Pulford and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Orilee Wright and second wife Muriel Stevens Schult, sisters Mary Mangan, Francis Shanahan, Marjorie Vreeman, Kathleen Garnatz, brother Robert Mangan, two sons-in-laws Harry Yetter and Richard Saro, and one stepson Steve Schultz.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with 6 p.m. prayer service by Father William Thompson on Thursday, Oct. 22 at Riley Funeral Home and one hour prior to service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Church.
