Harold Norris Johnson, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
He was born June 20, 1932 to Hellick and Ronnaug (Sather) Johnson. After leaving home, he married Betty Billman on April 4, 1954. Shortly after they were married they moved to Tacoma, Washington as Harold was in the service for several years and there they had their first born son, Mark. Eventually they moved back to Minnesota and got involved with the family farming. They settled in Chatfield and spent 56 years raising their family.
Harold later acquired the training and became an iron worker which he did for 28 years. After he retired he started up a landscape business for another 10 years.
Harold loved his family and helped host many family gatherings. He always had a cold or hot beverage to offer when friends or family would stop by for a visit.
He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with his wife, Betty. He was on the Fillmore county fair board and enjoyed watching his four children and wife enter many exhibits at the fair. He attended many sporting events as all his children were in numerous sports. He looked forward to the yearly 4th of July family get together with relatives. Harold rarely missed his morning coffee and shaking dice with his buddies at the local restaurant.
Harold is survived by his four children, Mark (Nancy) Johnson, Steven Johnson, Sheryl Hulbert (Ken Paulson) and Timothy (Maureen) Johnson, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren and his many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, brother Norval Johnson, sisters Bea Rott, Gladys Porawski, Margaret Johnson and Ruth Veglahn; daughter in-law Darlene (Rath) Johnson.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 9, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chatfield United Methodist Church, with Pastor Debra Jene- Collum officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 8, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church. He will be put to rest after the service at the Chatfield Cemetery, with military honors by Chatfield’s VFW Post 6913.
Harold was always a pillar of strength for his family, a very loving and kind father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many, especially his family. Rest in peace, your memory will be in our hearts forever.
