HOUSTON, MINN. - Harold H. Missell died peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2006, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in LaCrosse, Wis. Harold was born on April 2, 1918, in St. Charles, Minn. to Herman and Ernestine (Simon) Missell. He attended grade and high school in Plainview, Minn. He also attended St. Charles Normal School, Winona State, LaCrosse State, and the Minnesota Farm School in St. Paul, Minn. Harold taught in rural schools in Wabasha and Winona Counties of Minn. and LaCrosse, Wis. He also taught a veterans agriculture class at Houston for 3 ½ years. Harold served on the Houston School Board for 17 years and was a longtime member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Houston. He was a rural mail carrier for 30 years on route two in Houston. Harold was a veteran of WWII with 4 ½ years of service and was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. Harold was a member of the American Legion Post 423 of Houston and had served both as adjunct and commander. He served as a County Commander. He was also was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Minnesota Chapter 35 of Winona. He married Avis Mades on May 7, 1944, at Houston. She passed away of cancer in March of 1989. He married Olga Appleby Junghans on October 28, 1989, at Trempealeau, Wis. Harold and Olga spent their winters in McAllen Tex. Harold was active in the area and owned a citrus grove in the Mission-Sherryland, Tex. area for a number of years. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one sister and one granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Olga A. Missell; two daughters: Carolyn (John) Mikkonen of Shakopee, Minn. and LaVon Missell of Holly Springs, North Carolina; two step-daughters: Sally (John) Gorman of Huntington Beach, Cal., and Mary (Jim) Carlson of Blair Wisconsin; three step-sons: Robert (Kathy) Junghans of North Oaks, Minn., Phillip (Joan) Junghans of Onalaska, Wis., and Mike (Susan) Junghans of Huntington Beach, Cal.; one sister, Lillean Graff of Lakeside, Cal; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces. There will be a memorial service for Harold at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel. Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be in the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minnesota.
