St. Charles, Harold Arthur Littlefield, 84, of St. Charles died Saturday morning June 4, 2005 at Season's Hospice in Rochester. Harold was born February 19, 1921 in St. Charles Township of Winona County to James and Ruby (Harcey) Littlefield. He graduated from St. Charles High School and went to work for Wolter Lumber Company as a carpenter. He joined the United States Marine Corps in January of 1942. After five weeks in boot camp he was shipped to the South Pacific. He later was to Camp LeJuene, North Carolina. On October 14, 1943 He and Elsie Ham were married at Minnesota Lake. IN January of 1944 he was shipped out to Guam, where he remained until the end of the war. Following the war he returned home and worked with his dad in the construction business. In the late 1950's he followed a long time dream and began farming. He and his family raised purebred Jersey cattle, which they showed at local county fairs, winning many Grand Champion, Reserve Champion and Blue Ribbons. He also kept over 20 horses which area young people could bring their bridles and saddles and go for trail rides. Harold was a 4-H leader. He and Elsie were selected King and Queen of the Winona County Fair. He served on the former Utica Creamery Board and was an elder in the Utica Presbyterian Church. Harold loved to hunt and fish and taught the skill to his children and grandchildren. He had the theory that if you go hunting and fishing with your kids you don't have to go hunting and fishing for them. He was an avid Atlanta Brave, Twins and Viking fan. He and Elsie followed their sons and grandsons many football games. Harold served 30 years on the Hillside Cemetery Board. He was a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Posts of St. Charles. He was a member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Elsie, a son Robert (Pamela) Littlefield, Sr. of St. Charles, two daughters, Linda (Kivden) Cornelius of Eyota and Patricia (Glenn) Brouwer of St. Charles, 10 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. His parents, a son Ron, a granddaughter, a sister and a brother preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Wednesday at St. Charles United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sharon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the St. Charles American Legion and VFW Posts.
