Harlan Drube

LewistonHarlan R. Drube, 83, of Rochester, formerly of Lewiston, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home.Harlan was born March 7, 1931 in Madison, Minnesota to Henry and Ethel (Gearman) Drube. He grew up on the family farm south of Revillo, South Dakota. He attended country school and graduated from Revillo High School in 1949. He worked on the farm for a year before joining the First National Bank in Milbank, SD, as a teller. Harlan married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Behlings, in 1953. The ceremony was performed by the same minister that baptized and confirmed both Harlan and Kathleen.During the 1960s, while working for First National Bank of Aberdeen, he worked at their branches in Groton, SD and Milbank, SD while also attending the University of Wisconsin School of Banking for two-week stretches in the summers. The family moved to Olivia, Minnesota in 1972 where Harlan was involved in the opening of a new bank, American State Bank, with a high school classmate. Harlan and Kathleen later spent two years in Fairfax, MN before moving to Lewiston, MN where he served as president of the Security State Bank until his retirement in 1996.After his retirement much of his time was spent golfing, a love and respect he passed onto his sons, and following the many school activities of his eight grandchildren. He was an avid Twins, Vikings and Gophers fan and was able to see his Twins play in three different stadiums. Harlan was very active in each and every community that he lived, serving on numerous church boards and committees, chambers of commerce, school boards and the Lions' Club. He was still an active member of the Security State Bank Board of Directors upon his death.He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.Harlan is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Behlings); his four children, Joel(Gail) of Blaine, MN, Kurt(Sheri) of Aberdeen,SD, Gregg of Salem, SD and Beth(Bruce)Sherden of Rochester; one sister, Arlene Oleson; eight grandchildren, Paul Drube, Jill Apolloni, April Begordis, Levi Drube, Lauren Drube, Eric Sherden, Adam Sherden, and Ryan Sherden; and one great-grandchild, Spencer Apolloni.The family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Bethany for their compassionate care of Harlan.The family prefers memorials be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church Silo School Building Project, Lewiston, MN. Services for Harlan will take place 11 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Silo in Lewiston, MN. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the church.
