HOUSTON, MN - Greg L. Lemke, 68, of Houston, MN died on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at his home.
Gregory Lester Lemke was born on July 29, 1947, in La Crosse, WI to Lester and Lois (Heintz) Lemke. He was raised in rural Houston (Looney Valley) and grew up attending Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural La Crescent, MN. Greg was a 1966, graduate of Houston High School and attended Winona State University. He married Jenelle Schultz. Together they had two children, Andrea and Jared. Greg married Patty Richards Peppers on September 23, 2010, in New Albin, IA. Through his career, Greg worked for Nelson Feed Store in Houston, and worked mostly as a farmer. At the time of his death, Greg was employed as a rural mail carrier. Greg took great interest in fireworks and was in charge of the fireworks display at the annual Houston Hoedown Days. He enjoyed fishing and bear, deer and turkey hunting, and hosting his annual Lemke deer camp. He also had sung with the Winona Hims men's choir. Greg was known for his big smile, great laugh and his awesome bear hugs.
He is survived by his wife, Patty; children: Andrea (Dan) Langan of Portage, WI, and Jared (Amy) Lemke of La Crosse, WI; four grandchildren: Jackson, Brynn, Colin, and Claire; three aunts: Ruth Heintz, Lillian Lehmann and Delores Heintz; by his uncle, Eugene (Virginia) Heintz; and by his first wife, Jenelle.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a visitation for Greg from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston.
