Grace B. Mueller, 100, of St. Charles, MN died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Golden Living Center, St. Charles. Grace was born December 12, 1916 in Saratoga, MN to Henry and Minnie (Schuett) Wondrow. Grace attended and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1934. She began teaching for a year before she married Irwin Mueller on August 25, 1936. The young loving couple had one daughter, Carmon. After Carmon was born, Grace took a break from teaching and helped Irwin around the farm for a few years before returning to her true passion. She taught for 30 years all together; 5 at rural school houses, 7 in Eyota and 19 in Rochester where she won the naming contest of the new school being built. Her entry was Harriet Bishop, the person to start the first organized school in the Minnesota Territory. She received her Master's in Education from Winona State University.
Outside of teaching she loved to play 500 and bowl in her younger years. She also was a fantastic cook and baker. Grace won many awards at the Winona County Fair, which was another love of hers. She made wonderful roast beef and was great at getting her great-grandchildren to eat slightly abnormal vegetables for a kid. She was active in the PTA, Senior Citizens Center and St. Matthew's Church.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Carmon J. Rossow; grandson, Marti (Deb) Ellinghuysen; great-grandsons, Matthew (Jessica) Ellinghuysen, Joseph Ellinghuysen and many nieces and nephews. Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Irwin; one brother and three sisters; 2 son-in-laws.
A visitation will be held 5-8PM Thursday, June 22 at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Services, St. Charles with a funeral at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior Friday, June 23 at St. Matthew's Church, St. Charles. Burial at Saratoga Cemetery. Memorials preferred to St. Charles Foundation for Academic Excellence or Season's Hospice.
