Gordon Neil Overing, 84, of Winona, passed away from Alzheimers on February 4, 2024, at Cottagewood Senior Living, in Rochester, MN. Born on September 17, 1939, in Winona, Minnesota, he was the son of Jacob and Ella (Severson) Overing.
Gordon was a graduate of Winona Senior High School, Class of 1959. Shortly after, he embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship with his wife Kathleen, whom he married on September 9, 1961, in Iowa. Their bond remained unbreakable for 62 beautiful years.
Throughout his working years, Gordon dedicated his efforts to UPS, serving the Winona area for an impressive 39 years. However, his true devotion was always reserved for his family. He had a special place in his heart for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always cherishing the laughter and joy they brought into his life.
Reflecting upon his life, it becomes clear that Gordon had a passion for the simple joys that surrounded him. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and being in nature. As time went on, he discovered another source of excitement and camaraderie at the casino, creating memories and stories that would be shared for years to come.
Gordon's kindness was evident in the small gestures he offered to those around him. He delighted in feeding the birds and squirrels, making sure their hunger was always satisfied. The employees at the Broadway and South Baker branch of Kwik Trip became familiar faces to him, as he would often stop by to pick up bread to share with his winged friends.
Known for his caring nature and quick wit, Gordon's presence brought laughter and warmth into every room he entered. He had a knack for finding the humor in any situation, spreading joy and light to those fortunate enough to know him.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Gordon Jr. Overing, Teri Smithe; grandchildren, Cameron, Reid, Zane, Ryland, Kelsey, Trina, Cassandra; great-grandchildren, Kash, Kruz, Annora, Izabella, Hayden, Harper, Oliver, and August.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Ella; siblings, Jacob, John, Bill, Eleanor, Lydia, Gertrude, MaryLou; and grandson, Tim Smithe.
Per Gordon's wishes, no services will be held.
Memorials are preferred to the Winona Area Humane Society.
