Glenn R. Bernau, 91 Money Creek, MN
Our Dad passed away Labor Day, Sept. 4, 2023 peacefully, at home. It was always Dad’s wish to be able to pass away in his own home.
Dad was born July 9,1932 to Frank and Pearl(Marks) Bernau in West Allis, WI. He grew up in West Allis and on the weekends he worked with his Dad at his neighborhood grocery store. When Dad was older he worked at a movie theater and that’s where he met our Mom, Dolly. Dad would let her in the back door, for free! They were married 12-13-52. Dad joined the Coast Guard and they were stationed in Boston,Mass. They had their first child while living there. Then they were off to Hawaii for two yrs. After 3 yrs. of service, Dad & Mom settled in Grafton, WI. They bought their first home and added three more children to the family. Dad worked then at Continental Can Company in Milwaukee. He was transferred to La Crosse in 1968. They moved out to Money Creek in 1972, where they made their forever home. Dad eventually retired at the ripe old age of 53 yrs. They enjoyed going to Florida in their early yrs. of retirement. Anything to get out of these cold Minnesota winters! Dad lost the love of his life, our Mother, after 62 yrs. of marriage, on 6-11-2015. Those two did everything together, and I mean everything. Our Dad really stopped living when our Mother passed away. It’s been a long eight yrs, but now our Father is finally at rest and is with his forever love! Dad leaves behind three sons, Carey(Kim), Ronald(Steph), Thomas(Carol) and one daughter Debra(Tom) Berns. He has eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren that will all miss Grandpa; one step-sister Frances Braun and many nieces, nephews & cousins. Dad was always there for everybody else. He would do without so Mom and us kids had pretty much whatever we wanted. I don’t believe we realized all this till we were adults ourselves, raising our own families, what Dad sacrificed for all of us. Love You Dad……
