St. Charles, Gladys W. Hammann, 92, of St. Charles died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Golden Living Center - Whitewater in St. Charles. Gladys was born September 12, 1917 in St. Charles to Harry and Anderna (Stone) Burgdorf. Following her graduation from St. Charles High School, Gladys worked for Patterson Quarries as a Bookkeeper, as teller at First National Bank in St. Charles and at the office of the St. Charles High School. She and Harold Hammann were married April 21, 1943 in St. Charles. The couple farmed on the family farm their entire married life. She later moved in to St. Charles. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles and its Rachel Circle. Gladys enjoyed going to horse and garage sales and 'going out for dinner'. Survivors include her three children; Wayne (Sue) Hammann of Lewiston, Arly Hammann of St. Charles and Beverly (Cecil) Hulshizer of Utica, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a brother Lester (Marion) Burgdorf of Plainview and a sister Lois (Logan) Behrens of Eyota. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on September 4, 1998, and by two sisters, two brothers and also an infant brother. Funeral Services will be 11AM Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Steve McGinley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Utica.
