"Gladdy" Iverson, 89, of Rushford, Minn. died on Friday, September 18, 2015, at the Valley View Healthcare and Rehab Center in Houston, Minn.Gladys Evelyne Barney Iverson was born in Rushford on December 19, 1925, to Helen and Albert Barney. She attended the Tenborg country school and Rushford High School, where she graduated in 1943. Her family lived on a farm in Galen Dahlen. While Gladys was in high school she stayed in town with various friends and family.Gladdy grew up on the farm, but she preferred city life and has been a lifelong resident of Rushford.She married Bernard (Stub) Iverson shortly after World War II. The couple had two children, Julie Anne and Paul. Gladdy was a staunch Lutheran and as faithful to Rushford Lutheran Church as to her God. She loved to teach and was especially committed to Sunday school, confirmation and Vacation Bible school for over thirty years. Gladdy is very proud that her mentee, Carina Schiltz Hansen, completing seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. She was active in the Rushford community in other ways, specifically with the American Legion Auxiliary (President) and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Gladdy was the librarian of the Rushford Public Library for 23 years. That was her dream job. She is survived by her daughter: Julie Iverson of Ridgeway, Iowa; son Paul (Rita) Iverson of New Milford, Connecticut; grandchildren: Anna (Jud) Turk of Minneapolis, Minn., and Samuel (Taylor) Iverson of Lancaster, New York; many Godchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and by her only living sibling Beatrice (Beat) Otis Rislove. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, many siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins.There will be a memorial service for Gladdy at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Rushford Lutheran Church or to the Heart Institute at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
