HOFF FUNERAL HOMES - HOUSTON CHAPEL 1-507-896-3127HOUSTON, MINN. - George D. Olson, 94, of Houston, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. George was born on April 1, 1909, at Storer Valley in Houston County, Minn. to Martin and Mathilda (Haupt) Olson. He was raised at Storer Valley and on June 25, 1930 he married Gladys Feller. He was a member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston. George farmed in the Houston area until 1953 when he moved to Rochester, Minn. He worked at the maintenance department for the Mayo clinic and at Harold's Auto Electric in Rochester as an auto electric specialist. Following his retirement, George and Gladys moved back to Houston in 1977. Gladys died on June 2, 1987. In his spare time George enjoyed working as a clock smith on antique clocks, tinkering on the farm, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by one son, George (Doris) Olson of Houston; four grandchildren: Cindy (Leon) Schaper, David Olson, Cathy Nation, and Connie (David) Dorwart; seven great-grandchildren: Brandon (Rebecca) Olson, Adam Olson, Megann Olson, Rodney Nation, Jr., Sheila Nation, Jerad Nation, and Sara Dorwart; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion Fredsal of LaCrosse, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and eight brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Silver Creek Cemetery, American Heart Assoc. or the American Cancer Society.
