St. Charles, Genevieve "Gen" (La Barge) Palmby, 96, of St. Charles died Saturday August 29, 2009 at Golden Living Center - Whitewater in St. Charles. Gen was born to Theodore & Ida (Patnoe) La Barge July 29, 1913 in Wagner, South Dakota. She married W.J. "Bill" Palmby in 1936 at St. Charles Catholic Church. The couple farmed north of Dover until moving to Rochester in 1962. Her husband died in April 2001. In 2005 Gen moved to St. Charles Assisted Living. In September of 2008 she entered the Golden Living Center. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading and bird watching, especially watching cardinals. Gen was a fan of the Twins, Vikings and Lou Holtz' Notre Dame Football teams. Survivors include her three children; Mary (Don) Clemens of Eyota, Larry (Juanita) Palmby of Dover and Ronal Palmby of Rochester, two step children; Bill (Rosie) Palmby of Indiana and Elaine Rysted of Stewartville, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one sister Dorothy Smith of Denver, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Tom, a step son Bob, two grandsons, five brothers and three sisters. A Funeral Mass will be 10AM Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Reverend James F. Callahan officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles.
