Gary "Bubbs" Plachecki, 58, of Galesville, WI and formerly of Winona, MN, died suddenly on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at his rural Galesville home.He was born on April 27, 1953 to Bernard and Beverly Plachecki. He lived in Winona until the early 1980s when he moved to his farm in rural Galesville. At a very young age, he started making deliveries with his step-father, Bill Schammel. Bill always said Gary was wearing "3 cornered pants" when he made his first Bill's Distributing sale and delivery. He took the business over and ran the route until health problems forced him to retire. He really missed the route, especially his customers.Gary loved the farm. Over the years, he enjoyed caring for a multitude of animals. Though never a fast-moving man, he was always planning for and/or doing some project. Of course, most of these projects required the assistance of a friend or 2. He liked having friends around. It's been said by many that "Gary is the best host." It didn't matter if it was friends, family, the Schwann's guy or the guy coming to plow the driveway, Gary always offered a pop, an ice cream bar, or anything he thought might be appreciated. He also loved to hunt and was a good shot. Gary was a good man and a good friend with a generous heart. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Schammel; step-father, William Schammel; and father, Bernard Plachecki. Gary is survived by his wife, Janita of Galesville; sister, Mary (Charlie) Schammel of Onalaska; brothers, Tom (Wanda) Plachecki of Haag, WI and John (Cindy) Plachecki of Fountain City: father and mother-in-law, Lowell and Alice Larson of La Crosse; brothers-in-law, Eric (Jean) Larson of St. Cloud and Ethan (Lavern) Larson of Viroqua; nieces and nephews, Ryan Plachecki and Alexis Plachecki of Minneapolis, Heather and Stephanie Larson of Viroqua, David Larson of Afghanistan, and Emily Larson of Sun Valley, ID; grand-niece, Isla Larson. He is also survived by Kortnie (John) Glodowski of Pine Creek, who Gary felt "was the closest thing to a daughter that I'll ever have." He is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles, especially his uncle "Butch" Richard Van Horn of Winona who has provided Gary with family, friendship, and someone to ask advice. He was always just a phone call away.Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Klinger, Tom Blagsvedt, Bob Hoffman, Gary Stoos, Eric Larson, and Larry Celius.A visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service-Hansen Goodview Chapel. Friends are asked to come to the Rollin Inn in Rollingstone at 8:00pm to have one last drink on Bubbs. In accordance with his wishes, Gary's ashes will be scattered "out behind the barn."
