St. Charles,
Fred L. Swiggum, 84, of St. Charles died Tuesday, June 7th at The Benedictine House in Rochester. Fred was born, October 8, 1931 in Fillmore County to Edward and Judith (Agrimson) Swiggum. In 1946 he moved with his family to their family farm south of Utica in Fillmore County. Fred married Joyce Malmin on June 21, 1952 in Peterson and they farmed the family farm. Joyce died June 27, 1990. He and Charl Skalisky were married on November 20, 1992. In 2000 they moved in to St. Charles.
Faith, family and farming were the three 'F's that guided Fred's life. His farming included dairy, chickens and hogs, but milking and caring for his cows was his favorite chore. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles and a member of Arendahl Lutheran Church for many years while living on the farm.
Survivors include his wife Charl, four children; James (Nancy) Swiggum of Young America, Lola (Jerry) Mueller of Shoreview, Lori (John) Deutschman of St. Charles and Ralph (Jennifer) Swiggum of Utica, nine grandchildren; Christopher, Scott and Lynn Swiggum, Ryan and Brent Carlson, Michael Deutschman, Chelsea Jensen, Allison and Nicole Swiggum, great-grandchildren; Aubrie and Evan Swiggum, Noah and Quinn Deutschman and Cameron Jensen, two brothers, Myron and Daniel Swiggum three sisters; Mary Jane Melvin, Doris Hoff and Rebecca Thompson. He is also survived by Charl's family; four step-children; Scott (Beth) Skalisky, Belinda (Steve) Priebe and Brian (Monica) Skalisky and step-grandchildren; Josh Skalisky, Ashley Priebe, Nick Priebe, Jenna and Rachel Skalisky.
Fred was preceded in death by his first wife Joyce, three brothers, two sisters, a daughter-in-law Kelly Swiggum and a step son Robbin (Becky) Skalisky.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11th at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
