Florence Schumacher

June 2, 1928 — October 11, 2018

Florence Mae Schumacher, 90, of Winona, died Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Sauer Health Care in Winona. Florence was born June 2, 1928, in Lewiston, MN to Erwin and Selma (Hoppe) Gensmer. During the summers growing up, Florence helped out on the Gensmer and Hoppe family farms, helping her aunts care for her young cousins. The family later moved to Winona and Florence graduated from Winona High School. After high school, she met Ray Schumacher and they married on September 10, 1948, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona. After Ray and Florence's marriage, they began their married life on the family farm near Rollingstone. She was always busy raising their 10 children and helping with chores on the farm. She loved cooking, baking, gardening and grew beautiful roses that we all enjoyed. Florence was a devout Christian and cherished her faith. She, for many years, taught Sunday School at both St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona and Hebron Moravian Church, Altura, and was active in Women's Fellowship, Sunday School and the church choir. Florence also enjoyed her time with the ladies in the homemaker's group. She loved listening to music and enjoyed the times she and Ray could go dancing at The Oaks Supper Club. Florence most cherished her family and spending lots of time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After Ray's passing, she made her home in Winona. When her house was full, she was the happiest. Florence is survived by her children, Sharon (Gib) Decker, Winona, Susan (John) Modry, Rochester, Debra (Rod) Ganser, Howards Grove, WI, Lynn (Don) Rosenau, Hector, MN, Joy Mattison, Burnsville, MN, DeeAnn (Dean) Benke, Stockton, Janna (Scott) Morcomb, Winona, Roger (Jodi), Rollingstone, Richard (Penny), Winona; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother Donald (Nancy) Gensmer; brother-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; son, Ronald, grandson Curtis Ganser, and son-in-law, Richard Mattison.
