Florence Alvina Thompson, 94, of Dover, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Golden Living Center in St. Charles.Florence was born May 27, 1916 in rural Eyota to Otto and Etta (Gensmer) Dunken. She graduated from Dover High School in 1935, where she played Basketball for four years. Following high school Florence worked at Kresges Dime Store in Rochester. On June 15, 1939 Florence and Wesley Thompson were married at Dover United Methodist Church. She began working for the Dover Post Office in 1961 and became postmaster in 1977, retiring August 4, 1984. She also took care of the bookwork for Dover Automotive, her husbands business, for 35 years. Wes died November 18, 2000. She moved to St. Charles Assisted Living in September of 2005. The couple enjoyed their involvement in the Whitewater Whirlers dance club. She was an avid card player. She was a member of Dover United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Florence loved following the Minnesota Twins and Chicago Bulls. Survivors include her two children Sandra (Roger) Dorf of Austin, TX and Wesley C. (Diana) Thompson of Rockton, IL; five grandchildren, Scott (Alicia) Dorf of Austin, TX, Michelle (Joe) Parisi of Cumming, GA, Terri (Steve) Cofoid of Roscoe, IL, Tracy (Rob) Black of Hebron, KY and Wesley S. (Jackie) Thompson of DeWitt, IL; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Parisi, Danielle Thompson, Adam Cofoid, Nicholas Parisi, Wesley B. Thompson, Shelby Dorf, Charlene Black, Kirsten Cofoid, Christina Dorf and Davis Black; and the Kieffer family who has become family over the years, Dale & Nancy of Dover, their children, Jennifer (Chris) Mitchell of Rochester, Peggy (Josh) Kahn of Elgin, Brian (Melinda) Kieffer of Dover, and their grandchildren, Carson & Weston Mitchell and Logan & Isaac Kahn. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 9 at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in St. Charles with the Reverend Heather E. Klason of Dover United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m., until the time of service. A reception will be served at the funeral home following services.
