Evelyn Ruth Underleak
Evelyn Ruth Underleak, age 89, passed away on Saturday morning, December 13th, in Rochester.
Evelyn Ruth Tjoren was born on March 8, 1925, in Minneapolis to Thomas Tjoren and Inga Hammersness Tjoren, both immigrants from Norway. She lived in Minneapolis through her graduation from the University of Minnesota. She then taught art and history in school systems in Chatfield and in Hammond, Indiana, before marrying George Edward "Judd" Underleak in 1953. Evelyn lived the remainder of her life in Chatfield, until she and George moved to Homestead of Rochester in November of 2006.
During her years in Chatfield, Evelyn raised her family and maintained a vital interest and involvement in the community, including being an active member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, Friends of the Chatfield Public Library, the Eastern Star, serving Meals on Wheels, and on the Chatfield Care Center Founders' Board. She loved gardening and cooking and bridge club with her Chatfield friends, and maintained life-long relationships with her childhood friends from Minneapolis.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Brian, of Rochester, and Mark (Evette) Andrlik of Nicholasville, Kentucky, as well as granddaughters Kaila, of Muncie, Indiana, and Kamyla, of Lexington, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by son Bruce in 2008 and husband George in 2010.
In accordance with Evelyn's wishes, her remains have been donated to the Mayo Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at Chatfield's Pioneer Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tim Gerarden on Wednesday, December 17th, at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. A simple reception at the church will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Chatfield Pioneer Presbyterian Church or Friends of the Chatfield Public Library.
