Evelyn Lucille Skjeie

Evelyn Lucille Skjeie, 92, of Chatfield, died Thursday, September 5, 2013, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield. Evelyn was born November 4, 1920, in Ellington Twp., Hancock County, Iowa to Hans and Fronie (Fuller) Scott. On May 27, 1939, she married Allen Gilman Skjeie in Albert Lea, MN. In 1961 the couple moved to Chatfield from Riceville, Iowa. Evelyn continued living on the farm after the death of her husband until moving into an apartment in Chatfield in 2003. After the children were raised, Evelyn worked for many years as a nurse's aide at the Chatfield Care Center. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her many flower gardens. She also enjoyed a good game of Bingo and was very talented at crocheting.

Evelyn is survived by her four children: Karon (Larry) McMaster of Lincoln, California; Richard (Linda) Skjeie of Kasson; Lucille (Fred) Leist of Silverdale, Washington; and Duane (Joyce) Skjeie of Chatfield. Thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen, daughter Wanda Kurtz, son-in-law Leonard Kurtz, grandson Donald Skjeie, four brothers and three sisters.

A visitation and memorial gathering will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield. A private family committal service will take place at a later date. Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield is in charge of arrangements. 507-867-4310. rileyfuneralhomes.com
