WINONA AND FORMERLY ST. CHARLESEvelyn Louise (Pagel) Fabian, 94, of Winona and formerly from St. Charles, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Clara House in La Crescent.Evelyn, the second of seven children, was born on October 11, 1918 at home in St. Charles to Paul and Anna (Pfeil) Pagel. She was raised in St. Charles and graduated from high school when she was 16 years old. She attended teachers training for one year and began teaching in a country school near Wilson. On June 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Alfred Fabian. They moved to a farm in Ridgeway in 1954 and later to Winona in 1979. In her later years, she worked in the kitchen at Winona Health. A talented quilter, she sewed many quilts for her family. She enjoyed entertaining her friends and family and was always ready to serve a cookie and Pepsi. Evelyn was always on time and never late and was sure to write everyone's birthday in her birthday book, which she checked each morning. She will be missed by all who knew her.Evelyn is survived by her sons, Jim (Judy) of Caledonia and Mark (Deb) of Marshall, WI; grandchildren, Heath (Kelly), Luke (Carla), Jenny (Mark) Gloede, Jason (Kelsy Kelly), Angie Klein, Sarah (Tye) Moen, and Ben Fabian; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Abbott; and sisters-in-law, Ilene Fabian and Betty Pagel. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred in 2003; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview. Funeral service will be at 11am on Tuesday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickwick with visitation one hour prior. Reverend James Nelson will officiate.
