Evelyn E. Shiel, 90, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, from injuries suffered from a motor vehicle accident in Winona, MN. Evelyn was born September 22, 1921, in Winona, MN, to Jacob and Leila (Jarcho) Davis. She married Jack A. Shiel on November 21, 1938, in Decorah, IA. He preceded Evelyn in death in 1981. Evelyn was a homemaker until her children left home and she went to work for Spurgeon's Department Store and the Dress Shop in Winona. Evelyn was an active member of McKinley United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. For the past several years Evelyn had been a volunteer for many organizations and had been a volunteer for the Senior Center in Winona for 19 years.Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Nash of Fridley, MN; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; sisters, Lois Prigge and Ada Kittle both of Winona; dear friend, Gen Bartz of Winona; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack, son Jack Shiel, granddaughter, Sandra Shiel, grandson, Michael Nash, brother, Lynn Davis, and three sisters, Marilyn Lien, Lorraine Hammond and Vera Wychgram.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3rd, at 11:00am, at Central United Methodist Church with the Reverend Justin Halbersma and Reverend Kathy Schuler officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
