Winona, MN Evelyn A. Pye Hennessy, 93, of Lewiston, MN, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN. Evelyn was born on February 6, 1914 at OakRidge to Andrew and Anna (Kalmes) Speltz. She grew up in OakRidge, attended Altura High School, and then worked to support her family. On August 30, 1937, Evelyn married Oscar Pye, Jr. Together they farmed by Wyattville. Besides being a farm wife, Evelyn worked at Rush Products in Lewiston and at a pickle factory in Winona. Oscar passed away on November 5, 1970. On July 14, 1973, Evelyn married Bernard Hennessy, Sr. Bernard passed away on October 7, 1987. Evelyn enjoyed her independence and driving. Her hobbies included playing cards at the American Legion in Lewiston, gardening, playing bingo, enjoying nature, and was an excellent food tester. She was very active at the Senior Center in Lewiston and was a Semcac Volunteer for many years. She was famous in her family for her sweet tooth, cooking turkeys, her green bean and potato soup, and her Luxemburg dressing. She will be dearly missed. Evelyn is survived by her four children; VeeAnn (Jerome, Sr.) Patzner of Lewiston, David (Cherre) Pye of Winona, Carol (Jerry) Hayes of Costa Mesa, CA, and Mary Pye of Winona, four step children; Bernard Jr. (Mary) Hennessy, T.R. (Bob) (Mitzie) Hennessy, Jerry (Noreen) Hennessy all of Lewiston, and Audrey (Joe) Gilbert of Elgin, IL.,15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 63 step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Dixie) Speltz of Pueblo, CO and Everett (Barbara) Speltz of LaCrescent, MN; two sisters, Harriet Glubka of Fairfield, IA and Violet Reynolds of Concord, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Oscar Pye and husband Bernard, Hennessy, Sr. The Funeral Mass for Evelyn will be at 10:30AM on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with the Reverend Jim Hennessy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in Hart. Friends may call from 4-7PM on Friday, August 31, 2007 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
