Evelyn A. Benson

Evelyn A. Benson, 93, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston, MN. Evelyn was born November 14, 1912 in Winneshiek County, Iowa to Albert and Emma (Blegen) Larson. She married Joyce O. Benson on February 14, 1934, in Spring Gove, MN. He preceded Evelyn in death on July 3, 1996. Evelyn graduated from Spring Gove High School. She received her teaching certificate from Teachers Normal School in Spring Grove and taught at the Yucatan Brick School for several years. Evelyn also assisted in the operation of the Benson Brothers Caf? in Houston for many, many years. Evelyn was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, 61 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Houston and was a member of the Eastern Star of which she was a past Worthy Matron. Evelyn is lovingly remembered for enjoying flea markets, collecting coins, gardening and baking. Evelyn had been a resident of Valley View Nursing home for the past eleven years.Survivors include Evelyn's three sons, David Benson of Bloomington, MN, J.O. (Gwen) Benson of Mason City, IA and Douglas (Barb) Benson of LaCrosse, WI; daughter, Joycelyn (Harley) Westby of Houston, MN; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great ? grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joyce, three brothers, Olaf, Norval and James and two sisters, Ruby and Norma.Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 11:00am at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with the Reverend Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston, MN. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Home ? Houston Chapel on Tuesday from 4:30-7:00pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
