Eugene "Gene" John Kaehler, 90 of Winona, died Monday, February 19, 2018 at Sugar Loaf Assisted Living.
Gene was born December 31, 1927 in Winona to Albert and Josephine (Gorny) Kaehler. He graduated from Winona Senior High School. Gene served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1946-1947. On May 18, 1950, he married Marion Haase. Gene was a member of the International Operators Union Local 49 and worked for Roverud Construction Company, Winona Plumbing Company, Austin Keller and Lametti & Sons. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, golfing and trapshooting. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards at Westfield and loved time spent with his grandchildren; especially cheering them on at all of their hockey games.
Survivors include his daughter, Deb (Mike) Styba of Shoreview; three grandchildren, Kelly (Andrew) Worth, Jeff (Megan) Styba and Annie (Ben) Wiegers; five great-grandchildren, Isaac, Eli, Teagan, Lucy , Caleb, a sixth grandbaby due in May; nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Marion in 1998; his parents; and his brothers Frederick (Fag), Albert (Dooney), Maurice (Monk), Joseph (Joe) and Robert (Spike).
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview with the Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery where the VFW Post 1287 will perform full military honors. Memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor's choice.
