Eugene J. Dzwonkowski, 91 of Fountain City, left this world on Saturday, February 3, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born to John & Stella (Zyiwicki) Dzwonkowski on April 13, 1926 in Winona. Gene was one of 9 boys and 4 girls. He married Jane (Bork) Henderson on August 20, 1976.
Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict with the 187th Airborne RCT as a paratrooper. He then went to work for Bethlehem Steel as a template maker in Chicago and finished his 30 ½ years with Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor, IN.
He was on a professional bowling team that won several Championships across the United States. His other hobbies were fishing, golfing, cooking, gardening and playing his favorite card game, Schofkopf. Gene also enjoyed meeting his friends at the sand bar for a few beers.
Gene was a lifetime member of the Athletic Club, the VFW Post 1287, American Legion Post 9 and the Eagles Club Post 1243.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane of 41 years; son, James Dzwonkowski of Berthrud, CO; stepson, Ronald (Ken) Henderson-Drury of Holmen, WI; brother, Donald (Joan) Bell of Owatonna, MN; step-granddaughter, Jackie (Rusty) Drury Bork of Winona and her sons, Troy & Austin; step-grandson, Bradley (Janelle) Drury of Woodbury, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
Prayer Service will be 4 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview followed by a reception to celebrate his life until 6 p.m. He will be buried at the Pieper Valley Cemetery with Military Honors in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Anne Extended Healthcare or Winona Health Hospice.
