Ervin A. Spitzer

January 1, 1900 — June 9, 2006

Ervin Adolph Spitzer, born October 5, 1928, died unexpectedly June 9, 2006 in St. Charles Township of Winona County. Ervin was the son of Adolph and Anna (Schreiber) Spitzer. He began farming in the St. Charles area in 1951 and remained on the farm until his death. He was married on August 28, 1953 to his life long partner Shirley (Burt) Spitzer. Ervin was a life long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was the families' motivator when it came time to plan the family fishing vacations up north. He was actively involved in the Jersey Cattle Club, where he was currently a director. He has also been a 4-H leader. Ervin enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and picking on his grandkids. Survivors include his wife Shirley, five children, Donald (Mary) Spitzer of Winona; Cheryl (Jerry) Mueller of St. Charles; Sandy (Paul) Ihrke of Lewiston; Deb (Randy) Franzen of Lewiston and Wayne Spitzer of St. Charles, one very close ex-daughter-in-law Deb Spitzer, one sister Donna (James) Prudoehl of St. Charles and one brother Rudie (Marie) Spitzer of St. Charles, 15 grandchildren, Katie (Fiance ? Tim Doebbert) Becky and David Spitzer, Bob, Mark and Annie Mueller, Jennica (Charles) Gray, Samantha Ihrke, Eric, Adam, Alyssa and Emily Franzen, Andrew, Ashley and Austin Spitzer, one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Gray and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Anna (Schreiber) Spitzer, a brother and sister-in-law Vern (Carol) Spitzer and one infant grandson Daniel Pickett. Funeral Services will be 2PM Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery at St. Charles. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services at the church.
