Eric Jeffrey Rumstick, 40, of Rollingstone, died suddenly on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester following an accident while working. He was surrounded by his loving family, Tricia, and many loving friends.Eric was born on May 2, 1971 in Winona to Roger and Stephanie (Beaty) Rumstick. After graduating from Winona Senior High School in 1989, he attended Southeast Technical College where he learned the basic fundamentals of machining. Eric's real passion was carpentry, which led him to earn a degree from Rochester Community and Technical College. He also attended courses in Red Wing to further his knowledge of custom cabinetry. He worked for various contractors before establishing his own company, Rumstick Construction, over 10 years ago. Whether it was building a home, deck, or custom doll house for his niece, Eric was very detail-oriented, took pride in all his projects, and the project was not considered complete until it was perfect.Eric loved spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting on his parent's farm in rural Osseo, and was very proud of the new home he built for his parents there. Eric had fond memories and stories of his numerous trips out west elk hunting. He also enjoyed hiking, searching for deer antlers, riding his ATV through the woods, and simply enjoying nature. Since high school, Eric had loved playing pool and played on many leagues throughout the years. Eric had a wonderful personality, always surrounded by fun and laughter. He had a very active life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He is survived by his parents, Stephanie and Roger Rumstick of Osseo; sisters, Jelaine (Joel) Merchlewitz and Kari Weidemann, both of Rushford; niece, Lindsey Merchlewitz; nephews, Jake Merchlewitz, Ryan and Kyle Weidemann; special friend, Tricia Lorenz, her son, C.J. Stiever, and her niece, Taylor Brand; many aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends. Eric is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; cousin, Chris Ladewig; and uncle, Jeffrey Beaty, who died serving his country in Vietnam, whom Eric was named after.He was known as a giving person, and even in death, his giving continues as his donation of organs will touch the lives of as many as 60 people.A visitation will be held from 3-7pm on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service-Hansen Goodview Chapel. Private memorial service for family and Eric's close friends will be held at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in Osseo with burial following in the church cemetery.
