Emil W. "Bud" Pflughoeft, 90, of St. Charles, died Friday, April 28, 2017, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.
Bud was born July 1, 1926, in Ridgeway to Henry and Barb (Heuer) Pflughoeft. Bud lived in the Ridgeway area where he farmed with his parents until entering the Army during WW II, where he served in post-war Japan. On return to Ridgeway, he met and married the love of his life, Leora Blumentritt. They farmed near Ridgeway and raised three daughters.
Bud loved farming and was progressive in farming methods. He served on the consolidated school board there and was proud of the new school built while he served. He also served on the Ridgeway Grace Lutheran Church Board. He later served on the board for Goodview Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a member. Bud and Leora's home was always full of family and friends. In 1979, Bud and Leora moved to Minnesota City and Bud worked for several farm-related businesses, maintenance positions and as a private contractor. Bud also worked for FEMA following his retirement from farming, and was called to help following many disasters across the country. He truly enjoyed this job because he could do three of his favorite things all at once: traveling, meeting people and helping people. Bud and Leora later moved to St. Charles.
Throughout their lives, Bud and Leora traveled extensively throughout the U.S. Bud loved traveling and meeting new people; he never met a stranger and was beloved by family and friends.
Survivors include his three daughters, Dawne (Sam Netherly) Pflughoeft of Covington, LA, Debra Pflughoeft-Hassett of Grand Forks, ND, and Lori (Randy) Kramer of St. Charles; six grandchildren, Richard Hassett, Zachary (Valerie) Roberton, Lindsey Netherly (Brandon Sherman), Roberta Hassett, Alexandra Netherly and Anna Kramer; three great-grandchildren, Mariya Roberton, Dannika Roberton and Roman Sherman and his sister Bernice Engrav of Lewiston, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leora; a grandson, Randy Kramer, Jr.; and a son-in-law, David Hassett.
Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at Goodview Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ben Sadler officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Bud will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
