PETERSON, MINN. - Emer T. Knutson, 88, of Peterson, Minn. died on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Emer was born on June 24, 1918, in North Dakota to Knut and Susie (Hildestad) Knutson. Emer moved with his family when he was a baby to rural Lanesboro, Minn. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. On September 12, 1945, he married Ruth Benson in Peterson, Minn. Emer farmed until 1951, in rural Peterson. He moved to Peterson where he worked for Benson Feed Mill, Allen Malman Construction and Jim Atkinson Construction. Emer was also a rural mail carrier for many years. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Peterson American Legion, and the Rural Mail Carrier Association. He enjoyed doing yard work, woodworking, carpentry work, and most of all going to auctions. He is survived by his wife Ruth; one son Karrol "Sam" (Mercedes) Benson of Houston, Minn.; three daughters: Catherine (Wayne) Haug of Lanesboro, Minn., Renae (Dennis) Novak of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Pamela (Richard) Johnson of Peterson, Minn.; eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gladys (Carl) Moger of Winona, Minn., and Marian (Rudy) Ellis of Shawano, Wis.; and one sister-in-law: Olive Haugen of Lanesboro, Minn. Emer was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Arthur and Milo Haugen. There will be a funeral service for Emer at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, Minn. Burial will be in the West Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Peterson, Minn. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
