Elsie M. Flatten

Elsie, M. Flatten, 84, of Houston, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Franciscan - Skemp Healthcare Center in LaCrosse, Wis. She was born on May 25, 1921, in Caledonia, Minn. to John and Edna (Thompson) Kittleson. Elsie was raised in Yucatan, Minn. where she helped her parents operate the Yucatan Store. She attended the Yucatan School and was confirmed at the Stone Church in rural Houston, Minn. On February 24, 1940, she married Sydney Flatten in Decorah, Iowa. The couple lived in Yucatan and Houston until 1958, when they moved to Kenosha, Wis. where they lived until moving back to Houston in 1974. Elsie lived the remainder of her life in Houston. Elsie was a member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. She made and enjoyed crafts and baking. She donated many of her creations to local organizations. Elsie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She is survived by one son, David (Linda) Flatten of West Allis, Wis.; one daughter, Nancy (Frank) Zieroth of Milwaukee, Wis.; four grand-children: Tiffany, Travis, Kimberly C., and Clayton (Kimberly A.); and one great-granddaughter, Kacie. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Gerald. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
