Elsie Hazel Littlefield, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Golden Living Center in St. Charles.Elsie was born September 22, 1922 to Erford and Phyllis (Dreher) Ham. She graduated from the St. Charles High School in 1940 and then attended Teachers Training. On October 14, 1943, she married Harold Littlefield in Minnesota Lake. Elsie taught for 5 years in rural schools after they were married. While raising her four children, she continued to work on her bachelor's degree and in 1964, she received her bachelor's degree from Winona State College. She taught 2nd grade at the St. Charles Elementary School for 30 years and continued to substitute teach for several years after her retirement. She continued to take courses towards her masters for a year and half and was only 4 credits short of a masters degree. She believed sincerely that education is something that can never be taken away from you.Elsie was a 4H leader and spent a few years as Superintendent of Fruits and Vegetables and Farm Crops at the Winona County Fair where she also helped with judging. Elsie and Harold were crowned King and Queen of the Winona County Fair in the early 1990's.Elsie was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and served as president for many years. She was also a member of the VFW Auxilliary, St. Charles United Methodist Church, M.E.A. and N.E.A. She loved reading, cardinals and roses and was happiest when surrounded by her family.She is survived by her son, Robert (Pamela) Littlefield, Sr., of St. Charles; two daughters, Linda (Kivden) Cornelius of Eyota and Patricia Brouwer of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; 2 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2005; parents; a son, Ronald; 1 granddaughter; 1 step-grandson and 2 brothers.Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Charles United Methodist Church with the Reverend Heather E. Klason officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
