Pickwick, MN Elmer William Mueller, 83, of Pickwick, MN, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at his home. Elmer was born February 20, 1926 in Winona County to Edward and Hattie (Hornberg) Mueller. From 1945 to 1946 he served as PFC in the Asiatic Pacific Armored Division during World War II 618th Air Control & Warning Squadron. On November 12, 1960 Elmer married Grace Pruka at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona, MN. Together, they made their home in Pickwick. Elmer worked for the Minnesota Highway Department DOT as a surveyor for 32 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Pickwick. Elmer was a member of the VFW Post #1287, Pickwick Volunteer Fire Department, and American Legion Post #9. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, ice fishing, was an umpire/spectator for many softball games both in Pickwick and Winona, and was an avid walker. He would walk the lakes in Winona daily. He will be dearly missed. Elmer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Grace Mueller of Pickwick; four children, Barbara (Michael) Myers of Dayton, OH, Dale Mueller of Minneapolis, MN, Sally (David) Maliszewski of Trempealeau, WI, and Penny (Frank) Smith of Winona, MN; brother Allen Mueller of Wilson, MN; and two sisters, Florence Strelow of Winona, MN and Gladys (Bill) Becker of Wilson, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Maynard and Edward, brother-in-law Earl Strelow, and sister-in-law Lela Mueller. The Funeral Service for Elmer will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Services ? Hansen Goodview Chapel with the Reverend Jim Nelson officiating. There will be military honors held outside immediately following the service. Friends and family are all invited to the VFW for food and fellowship following military honors. Burial will be held at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-2pm on Friday, June 5 at Hoff Funeral Home.
