Elmer Raymond Trogstad, 97, of Chatfield, passed away at Chosen Valley Care Center Wednesday, July 8, 2015, after a brief illness.
Elmer was born Sept. 9, 1917, to Ben and Millie Trogstad. Elmer was born in the house that he lived in for most of his farming life in the Pilot Mound area. Elmer attended country school one mile from his home. He served in the Army during World War II, and was stationed in Africa and Italy. After the war, Elmer returned home to farm. On Oct. 4, 1957, he married Elaine Miller of Plainview. They worked together farming the land that Elmer grew up on. Elaine passed away in October 2003.
In his later years, Elmer enjoyed helping his son on the farm and lived independently until age 95. Elmer resided at Chosen Valley Care Center since April 2013.
Elmer enjoyed fishing when he was younger, and in his later years enjoyed driving his car around the coun-tryside. Each week, he drove to town to buy a box of donuts and a Powerball lottery ticket. Both Elmer and Elaine took great joy in caring for and watching their two grandchildren grow.
Elmer is survived by his son, Randy (Tanna) of Chatfield, and two grandchildren, Ryan of Charlotte, N.C., and Allison of Kansas City, Kan. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Tilford Rain of Fountain, and sisters-in-law, Ramona Trogstad of Eyota, Audrey Trogstad of Preston, and Doreen Ressie and Elda Mae Michaelis, both of Lewiston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five broth-ers; five sisters; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Chatfield Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Docken officiating. Burial will follow at Pilot Mound Cemetery. Military services will be performed by Chatfield VFW Post 6913.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 12, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home, in Chatfield, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of the Chosen Valley Care Center for wonderful care they provided Elmer, especially their compassion and kindness in the final days of his life.
