St. Charles,
Elma G. Younker, 99, of St. Charles, died Friday, January 6th at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. Elma was born December 19, 1917 in Winnetoon, Nebraska to William and Magdalena (Breyer) Scheleen. Following high school, Elma moved to California to work at an airplane assembly plant and as a maid for Bing Crosby. A friend encouraged her to write to his brother, Archie, who was serving in the Army's WWII war efforts. Elma and Archie Younker were married in Winnetoon, Nebraska on June 3, 1947. They later made their home in St. Charles, where Elma was very involved in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, enjoying women's night out with the church ladies group.
Elma worked as a cook at the St. Charles Elementary School for many years, treasured collecting and sharing angel figurines, and reading.
Elma is survived by her son Roger of Blaine; three grandchildren: Reed (Monique) Younker, Kyle (Agustina) Younker, and Ann Younker; great-grandchildren: Benton, Audrey, and Maxi Younker, and a former daughter-in-law Laurie Rittenour-Younker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Archie, brothers, Melvin and William, Jr. and sister Doris.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Reverend Samuel Morsching officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles.
