Elizabeth J. Hatleli

Elizabeth "Betty" J. Hatleli, 65, of Rushford, died on Monday, February 20, 2006 at her home following a long battle with cancer. Betty was born on May 22, 1940, to Cyrus and Laura (Kramer) Hatleli in Rushford, Minn. She attended Rushford Public School from grades 1-6 and Rushford High School from grades 7-12 where she graduated on May 28, 1958. After graduating from high school, she attended Humboldt Business Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. where she graduated in 1958. From 1959 to 1961 she attended Winona State University, and Winona Secretarial School. In 1982 and 83, she attended Winona Technical College and graduated with a degree of Legal Secretary. From 1991 to 1992 she attended Pan American University in Edinburg Texas. After graduating from high school, Betty worked for Dr. Donald T. Burt, dentist in Winona, Minn. Later she worked for State Farm Auto Insurance Co. in St. Louis Park, Minn., Glendenning Motorways in Roseville, Minn., and American Trailer Sales in Roseville, Minn. From 1963 to 1965 she worked for the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley in St. Paul, Minn. In June of 1965 she married Richard G. Petsch, and was later divorced. In 1983, Betty moved to Texas where she lived for 9 years. While living there, she worked for Carl's Grocery Company in Mission, Texas, and CBM Vocational School in McAllen Texas. Betty also lived for a short time in Sequim, Washington. She moved back to Minnesota in 1992, and worked for Quicksilver Express Courier in Little Canada, Minn. In 1995, she moved back home to Rushford to be caregiver for her parents. Betty's hobbies included traveling, reading, hiking, walks, and the computer. She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Betty is survived by one daughter, Heidi Petsch (Eddie) Torres of Cottage Grove, Minn.; one son, David Petsch of Mississippi; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Jesse, Heather, Cody, Nate, Taylor, and Tyler; and by her mother, Laura Hatleli of Rushford. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.
