Edwyna Ellen "Eddie" Cravath, 90, of rural Chatfield died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.Edwnya was born July 21, 1919 near Dover to E.A. and Ellen (Donaldson) Messerschmidt. She was raised on the family farm north of Dover. Edwyna received a degree as a Registered Nurse from Northwestern School of Nursing of Minneapolis in 1943. She and Russell Cravath were married June 24, 1944. They farmed south of Dover. Edwyna worked as a private duty nurse at St. Mary's Hospital from 1946 until her retirement in 1987. In there retirement, Eddie and Russell enjoyed their travels to Hawaii, Europe and Japan. She maintained an active interest in the community. A celebration, in July, of her 90th birthday with her friends and family was a highlight of her later years of life. Edwyna was an active member of Dover United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Survivors include her two sons, Paul of Honolulu, Hawaii and Jon of Rochester, a brother Edwin Messerschmidt of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell on June 27, 2005, also by a son Terry in December of 1965 and by three brothers.Funeral services will be 11AM Thursday at Dover United Methodist Church with Reverend Heather E. Klason officiating. Burial will follow in Saratoga Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8PM Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles.
