Edwin A. "Ed" Kobler, 86 of Altura died Thursday February 2, 2006 at Winona Community Memorial Hospital. He was born March 19, 1919 in Altura the son of Joseph F. and Lena (Pfeil) Kobler. Ed never married. He resided and farmed on the family farm in rural Altura. He was active in public affairs all his life. He served as a member and officer on the Norton Township Board for 26 years. Ed was a Winona County Commissioner, where he served on many boards and committees for 16 years. He was a Minnesota State Fire Warden; a founding member and treasurer of the Zion Evangelical Cemetery Board; a lifetime member of the Winona Elks Lodge #327, a member of the Red Men Club of Winona and a member of Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura. Ed enjoyed the outdoors and the farm life that he lived. He enjoyed being around people and visiting with family, friends and neighbors. Survivors include a nephew, nieces, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lena, two brothers, Everett and Vernon, five sisters, Ruth, Edna, Bernice (Donald) Baker, Alice and Jane. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday at Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura with the Rev. David Sobek officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Evangelical Cemetery in Mount Vernon Township of Winona County. Friends may call at Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura from 4-8 PM Monday and 9:30 - 10:30 AM Tuesday.
