The funeral for Edna M. Johnson, age 95, will be at 11:00 AM Friday, April 8th at the Chatfield Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Docken officiating. Burial will follow at the Chatfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson passed away April 4, 2016 with family at her side, in Madison, WI at Oak Park Place Nursing and Rehab Center where she had resided the past three months. For the past nine years, since her husband’s passing, she had resided in Madison at the home of her younger sister, Helen Robertstad. She lived the majority of her married life in rural Dover, Minnesota.
Edna May (Rodgers) Johnson was born on a farm in rural Chatfield, MN on December 16, 1920 to Irish immigrant parents Andrew and Mary Alice (Huggard) Rodgers. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Chatfield. Her childhood was spent in the Chatfield area where she attended Bear Creek Elementary School in rural Chatfield. Edna was in the Specialty Act of the Senior Class Play. She graduated with honors from Chatfield High School.
Edna married Orvis J. Johnson, the love of her life, on July 14, 1943. They attended Chatfield Lutheran Church. They were one of the founders of the church and she was the first treasurer of the Ladies Aid.
Edna loved to garden, sew, make crafts, preserve foods by canning, collect miniature tea sets, plates, and Hummel’s. She will be remembered as being a devoted sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.
She is survived by her dear sister Helen Robertstad, and godson John Robertstad. Edna was preceded in death by her husband Orvis, her parents Andrew and Mary (fondly known as, May), her sister Miriam, and her brothers William and John and her sister-in-law Marie Rodgers. She leaves behind many caring relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM on Friday until the start of the service at the Chatfield Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank all those who supported Edna in her life. Special appreciation to Rev. Paula Harris (St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Madison), Sandra, Taryn, Barb, Louise L., Agrace Hospice Care in Madison (especially Leah, Brenda, and Carmen), the Franke family, Linda’s co-worker’s, the staff at Wildwood Clinic in Madison, and the staff at Oak Park Place (especially Hailey).
Memorials may be made to: Chatfield Lutheran Church, Agrace Hospice Care (Madison), St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (Madison), or to the donor’s choice.
