Edna Kay (Haas) Hughes, 81, of Chatfield, died peacefully in Rochester, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, surrounded by her three children.

Edna was born the youngest of four daughters, on September 12, 1939, to Edward and Irene (Ramsey) Haas, in Chatfield.  She graduated from Chosen Valley High School in Chatfield, and then received a Bachelor degree from Winona State College, majoring in Elementary Education with a Library minor.  She began her teaching career in several area towns, eventually retiring from Chatfield Elementary School in 1999.

On August 20, 1966, Edna was married to Robert Hughes at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield.  Bob and Edna had three children, Gregory, Katy, Terrence, who all reside in Rochester.

After retiring, Edna enjoyed sightseeing and casino bus trips, getting her hair fixed, eating out, going to church, and spending time with family and friends.  She was a member of the Purple Passion Chicks Red Hat Club, and was delighted to spend time with these groups and going on fun outings.  Edna and Bob also delivered Meals on Wheels, and she was a member of St. Elizabeth’s division of the Altar Society at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  She cherished weekly Sunday get togethers with her children, which was a tradition for many years.

In addition to her children, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to her as “Kay Kay”.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 2014, her parents, and 3 sisters and their spouses, Arledene (Donald) DeBruin, Genevieve (Chester) Martin, and Mary Lou (Arthur) Borland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place with Father Edward McGrath presiding on, Monday, October 19, 2020, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chatfield.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
