HOFF FUNERAL HOMES - RUSHFORD CHAPEL 507-864-7771 RUSHFORD, MINN. - Edith A. Hegland, 80, of Rushford died Thursday, December 29, 2005, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. She was born on February 18, 1925, to Edward and Alice (Tungland) Hanson. She was raised in rural Peterson, Minn. where she attended Boyum Country School. She graduated from Peterson High School and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Edith married LaVerne Hegland on September 22, 1944. She worked at Watlow in Winona, Minn. and various other places in the area. She was a Sunday school teacher and WELCA member at North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, Minn. and at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, Minn. Edith enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking wedding and graduation cakes and doing crossword puzzles. She loved being with her grandchildren and her dogs. She is survived by three sons: Duane (Cherie) Hegland of Peterson, Minn., Dale (Lavonne) Hegland of Glencoe, Minn. and Danny (Lisa Pierre) Hegland of Bloomington, Minn.; two daughters: Diane (Mark) Mathison of Peterson, Minn. and Donna (Jerry) Rosenthal of Roseville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Genevieve (Carl) Heathcote of Dubuque, Iowa and Audrey (Vaughn) Surface of Florence, Colorado; and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Hegland of Sparta, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, David, and one great-granddaughter, Lauren. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, Minn. with the Rev. Ronald Warnes officiating. Burial will be at the Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery in rural Peterson, Minn. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Church. The family prefers memorials to the American Diabetes Assoc.
